"The HAARP Letters A Climate Changing Reality" is a dystopian Science Fiction novel, set in the middle of the 21st century.

In the aftermath of Big Thunder, an environmental disaster, Abram Fuld, along with his militant group, some refugees and four lady scientists whose mission is reestablishing civilization, are thrown together at the HAARP compound, besieged by violent "marauders." They plan a fresh utopian start founded upon a new Gaian "religion," integral to which will be care for the world's remaining environmental resources, with the use of carbon-neutral husbandry systems and specially designed seedstocks. Concerned at the social implications of some of the innovations, Abram corresponds by email with an old friend who has survived in another of the world's emergency bunkers. These documents remain in the archives of the new Doni Sisterhood as The HAARP Letters ...

Okay, everybody likes an end-of-the-world type story, right? The human race refusing to give up under astronomical odds placed against it. Imagine Hunger Games only better. Of the different scenarios I’ve come across in recent years, I have to say The HAARP Letters by Anthony J. Gerst is one of the best. An environmental disaster on Earth leaves a militant group, refugees and scientists on a mission to re-establish civilization. They are thrown in together at the HAARP compound, besieged by violent, cannibalistic marauders. They plan to found a new Gaian religion, their goal to set up and care for the world’s remaining resources.

The story is told through a series of correspondence between Abram and his old friend Bill, another survivor living at a different bunker. The beginning is just a tad slow and I admit to struggling with some of the religious elements presented. But if you can put your own personal beliefs aside for the purpose of entertainment, this is a great novel. I worried at the start that a series of letters might be slow and dull, but it wasn’t, not even a little. The characters are instantly brought to life, and the setting brilliant and imaginative. You don’t feel as though you are reading a series of letters. Gerst expertly pulls you in, makes you feel for these people and the world they find themselves trying to survive in, and builds toward an ending that leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one. The HAARP Letters is definitely one you’ll want to take a look at.

The Haarp Letters Climate Sociology Anthony J Gerst 9781681602202 Books Reviews

The Haarp Letters was a very interesting and intriguing novel. At first I found it hard to understand the way of the story, as I felt there were too many facts and figures that distracted you from the storyline. However, as the book progressed I really got into it. I loved the idea of having a diary extract for each chapter and the correspondence between Bill and Abram. I felt an emotional connection between some characters, but not all, as I felt some characters could have been developed more. Overall I felt very satisfied with the outcome and the journey that it took me. I would recommend this book to people that are interested in this type of genre, as it's written in a very intellectual way, with a lot of thought going into it.
This was one of the best books I've read for some time, I preferred it to the Hunger Games. It has some really thought-provoking themes in it. Not just your usual end-of-the-world scenario, it shows a group of people trying to make things better, setting up a society where the main concern will be care for the precious remaining environment after a global disaster. The fact that this disaster has been brought on by meddling in order to prevent it, should ring warning bells as we read on. The device of emails to enable the backstory and unfolding of events to be satisfactorily explained works very well, the book becomes more and more difficult to put down as the reader progresses through it. By the end of the book, the rest of the series is cleverly set up and one can roughly see where the problems of this new Utopia are going to lie. Basically, it's a very human here-we-go-again story, we never learn. If this sort of cli-fi can open people's eyes to some of the risks, it will have done its job. Meanwhile DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK - I can't wait for the sequels!
