This ancient Chinese classic will put more balance and understanding into your life. The Tao Te Ching is a cornerstone of the world's wisdom literature. It is one of the most succinct yet profound spiritual texts ever written. Despite the simplicity of its message, it is one of the most influential Taoist texts. Divided into 81 short sections, the book contains insights into the "Way" of the natural world around us. The "Way" is Tao. Tao also means path, method, and other things. You will understand what Tao is through contemplation and reflection. The Tao Te Ching is traditionally attributed to a philosopher named Lao-tzu, but even his existence is debated. His name simply means "Old Master." Estimates of when it was composed range from the 3rd century to the 6th century BCE. Peter Frentzel (Daisen Ryotoku) brings the work to life in a concise way that is accessible for the modern reader. His insightful new interpretation presents the gist of the Tao Te Ching in simple language that is brief and clear. He elegantly conveys Lao-tzu's laconic style of writing.

I loved PETERFRENTZEL'S book TAO TE CHING: THE INNER JOURNEY. I have several other versions and they don't compare to Peter Frentzel.s Interpretaion. Mr. Frentzel's TAO simplify verses such as #20 that has always been beyond my comprehension. Yes it is the language he uses, the descriptions he offers and the meanings behind the words; but Mr. Frentzel's greatest gift is his DIVINE GUIDANCE IN translatING the DAO. I have always found the Dao interesting and thought provoking. PETER FRENTZEL has gotten to the very heart of the matter. His book speaks to my innermost soul. I am buying this book as gifts for friends now. Durriah BBelow are 2 examples for you to compare. FRENTZELS, TAO TE CHING: THE INNER JOURNEY. AND Steven MITCHELL'S TAO TE CHING.
#20- in FRENTZELS, TAO TE CHING THE INNER JOURNEY
#20..(first few sentences)
What is the difference between all these thoughts and opinions of right, wrong, good, bad, proper and improper?
Shall I fear what others fear? It is as if everyone is chasing about at a carnival lost to the significance of life. Like an infant before learning to imitate I alone am without expression. I wander as if I belong nowhere.
#20 - in Steven Mitchels TAO TE CHING
#20 (paragraph1 & 2)
Stop thinking and end your problems. What difference between yes and no? What difference between success and failure? Must you value what others value, avoid what others avoid? How rediculous. Other people are excited as though they are at a parade, I alone don't care. I alone am expressionlessm like an infant before it can smile.

Tao Te Ching The Inner Journey Peter Frentzel Les Morgan 9781481908771 Books Reviews
I gave this book 5 stars because of the quality of the interpretation. The book is accessible and complex at the same time. I have gone back to the book several times, and find new levels of understanding each time.
I find the juxtaposition of opposites dizzying in most translations of this great text. Here, I find clarity and ease in the resolution of apparent conflict. It is like picking up a stick -- both ends are elevated at once.
I have added this text to those few books I keep on my nightstand.
In the quietness of stillness...
reading Peter Frentzel's Tao Te Ching The Inner Journey
The words
The ideas
The interpretations
The knowingness of the Tao
revealed in moments of Timelessness
Glimpses of empty stillness expanding into
fullness of Eternity
Congratulations Peter, you have dipped into the Invisible Divine
and brought back wisdom of Truth.

I read one page a day. When I have finished the eighty pieces, I begin again and find new things or new thoughts I did not clearly see before.
A very lucid translation of an important text. It pulls you in as if you were reading it in the original. While it flows with ease in English, it reminds you of richness of thought that's not inherent in English without irritating the reader.
